Amadeus hackathon invites students to focus on sustainability in travel

It’s no secret that Amadeus takes sustainability seriously. In 2017, Amadeus signed the United Nations carbon neutral pledge: although 2050 is the official target date, we aspire to reach our goal by 2030 and to align with the Science Based Targets initiative.

We’re already making great strides because Amadeus is committed to increasing our positive impact, supporting our customers to reach their sustainability objectives, and collaborating with industry stakeholders in joint environmental, social, and innovative projects.But we can’t do this alone; the entire travel industry must put their best minds together if we are to come up with the innovative solutions required to make a real impact on sustainability.

That’s why we’re dedicating the next Amadeus Global Hackathon to sustainability. Dubbed#1AHACK4SUSTAINABILITY , our virtual hackathon will invite 600 university students from around the world to innovate and develop applications that can contribute to a more sustainable travel experience.

From the 3^rd to the 16^th October 2022, students have an opportunity to brainstorm, get insights, and mentorships from leaders of some of the biggest players in the travel and tech industries, including Microsoft, Air France/KLM, Etihad, Red Hat, MongoDB, UNWTO and many more, as they code on a cutting-edge, cloud native platform to bring their ideas to life.

This isn’t just an opportunity to tackle sustainability in travel, it will be a chance for students to meet industry leaders, learn from new mentors, experiment with the latest in coding technology, and compete for prizes, including internships with Amadeus and other industry partners.

To stay true to the theme, through our partnership with Saving the Amazon a tree will be planted in honor of each participant in our #AmadeusForest, which helps preserve biodiversity in the Amazon region.
